Kitchens are a big part of the character of a home.  Kitchens in the past were built and designed for function, not necessarily for looks.  Todays kitchens are different.  They can be the focal point of a home.  People are drawn to the homes kitchen when they first walk into the home.  They want to see what type of countertops are in the home.  Kitchens can be a place to hang out when you have people at your home.

The kitchen island is a great feature for any of todays kitchen.  People are entertaining more at home and want a nice kitchen.  A center island is a great place for people to congregate around, and also serves as a great place for storage.  There are usually not cabinets above a center island, which helps out with and “open feel” for the home.  People like large open spaces.  A center island is a great addition to any kitchen.

Another trend for todays kitchen is color.  For a while the trend was neutral colors in a kitchen.  Today homeowners want to make a statement with their home, and especially their kitchen.  An easy way to add color is with small colored appliances, like a toaster or blender.  Homeowners are also mixing the different colored woods for their cabinets and flooring.  Center islands do not always match the other kitchen cabinets.

Countertops are also very important.  Granite is popular along with Cambria.  Even less expensive townhomes are starting to have granite countertops.  Homeowners want their kitchen to make a statement.
