How to Choose a Remodeler
So you are thinking about remodeling your home. But you want to make sure that the person or company you choose will do a good job, and the final product is exactley what you want. One of the first things that you can do is to call the Minnesota Department of Commerce (651) 296-4026 and make sure that the contractor is licensed by the State of Minnesota. They also should have their license number on their stationary and all of their printed materials.
Another good thing to do is to call the Better Business Bureau and see if they are in good standing. You should also determine whether they are a member of NARI or a different association. You should also request a list of all the recent remodels that they have performed. Make sure that they have done a similiar remodel before, such as if you are having a kitchen re-done, make sure that contractor has re-done kitchens before, not just build decks. You should also personally interview the potential contractors. You need to make sure that you can communicate well with them. If you can’t communicate with them, it might be a long process.
