Many people think the best time to take care of the lawn at home is in the Spring or the Summer.  However, Fall is the best time to take care of your lawn to get it ready for next spring. Fall is a great time to aerate, seed and fertilize your lawn.  Grass seed germinates best in damp soil.  Consitant cool weather is also good for it.  Winterizing fertilizer is also a good product that provides potassium for your lawn, which promotes root growth.  It is different from other seed used during the growing season in that is has a lower nitrogen level.  This is good because it dosen’t promote blade growth.

If you like flowers in your home garden, such as crocus, hyacinths, tulips and jonquils the best time to plant them is the middle of September to the middle of October.  The beginning of September is also a great time to transplant certain types of flowers, such as rhubarb and lilies.  If you have perennials and are leaving them, you should wait until after the first frost, and then cut everything almost to the ground.
